Wild Fable Inspired Matching Set

Originally written on April 7, 2020

Hey friends, happy Tuesday! I haven’t posted in a while so I thought, why not share one of my FAVORITE projects I’ve done during this quarantine?

Over the weekend, I made a bleach tie dyed matching set. I have been loving all of the sets Target has, but I never loved any of them enough to buy. I really love black, so I decided to make my own.

What you need:

  • Blank sweatshirt

  • Blank sweatpants

  • Empty spray bottle

  • Bleach

  • Rubber bands

How to:

  1. Choose your preferred tie dye method, check out this video for some ideas. For reference, I used a version of the “scrunch method.” There are many you can do so be sure to have inspo for yours!

  2. Use the rubber bands to hold your sweater/sweatpants in place. Make sure they are nice and tight so the bleach goes exactly where you want it.

  3. After tying up your sweatshirt and sweatpants, fill your spray bottle with the bleach. (You can also use toilet bowl cleaner)

  4. Take the bleach to the shower or outside. Be sure to wear old clothes so you don’t ruin good clothes!

  5. Spray both the front and the back of each item. I really soaked mine and be sure to get the crevices in-between the folds.

  6. Leave on for 8-10 minutes, and repeat if necessary. For reference, I left the first round on for 10 minutes, then went in for a second layer for about 8 more minutes. This gave my bleach a two toned effect. Be careful leaving it on too long, bleach can burn through cotton if you leave it on too long.

  7. Rinse items with COLD water, again be careful that the bleach doesn’t splash or rub against your clothing.

  8. Wash the sweat suit by themselves in the washer with regular laundry detergent and COLD water.

  9. Dry in the dryer or air dryer

  10. You’re done!
